Meals of Hope Meal Packing Events Are Great For Schools
Meal Packing Events are Great for Schools
One of the best learning experiences students can gain at school is becoming active members of their community, and one of the best ways to accomplish that is to give back your time and energy into having a positive impact on society. At school, students learn how to read and write, gaining the valuable skills to guide them forward in their education and careers. But, just as important, is to gain the knowledge that there are real problems in the world and people both inside and outside your community suffering. And there’s simply no better way to step outside oneself and see the world at-large than to dedicate your time to community service.
Meals of Hope is quickly emerging as one of the most meaningful – and fun – ways to engage students in community service. Meals of Hope hosts lively and exciting meal-packing events where students, teachers, staff and families come together to pack meals for people in their community suffering from hunger and food insecurity. In the process, students learn that dedicating their time to good causes and helping people less fortunate can also be fun and engaging.
In honor of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the University of Tennessee held its first ever meal-packing event through Meals of Hope, drawing more than 500 volunteers who packed more than 50,000 meals in just a short afternoon! According to a report in the student newspaper, The Daily Beacon, students learned about the prevalence of food insecurity in their community of Knoxville, especially among students themselves. The Daily Beacon reported that the event featured upbeat music, high energy and a festive atmosphere. “I would definitely want to make this an annual thing,” Ciara Gazaway, one of the volunteers, said. “I mean, we can only grow from here and find more people to volunteer here on campus. With more volunteers in the future, we may be able to pack even more meals than we already are.”
School Meal-Packing Events Offer Huge Opportunity
As a Meals of Hope franchise owner, it’s your job to build connections within your community – with businesses, nonprofits, churches, schools and universities, to name a few – in order to find sponsors for meal packing events. Time and again, schools, colleges and universities have proven a huge and reliable source of sponsorship, and it’s not hard to see why. Meals of Hope makes giving back to your community a fun and rewarding experience, while at the same time, offering a chance to connect with other people in your community while you pack meals for people in need. It’s no wonder why education institutions continually partner with Meals of Hope, with students able to build relationships with people face-to-face, all while working toward the noble cause of ending hunger and food insecurity.
At the same time, Meals of Hope franchise owners are tasked with making sure meal-packing events are high energy, run smoothly, and are filled with a festive atmosphere. Put it this way – at Meals of Hope, we want our meal-packing events to feel like a charitable party in which everyone has fun and feels good about their work at the end of the event. And because Meals of Hope events offer the opportunity to engage in community service while having fun and building relationships, we’ve found schools, colleges and universities make great repeat customers. With education institutions meeting their goals, students having fun while giving back, people suffering from food insecurity finding relief, and franchise owners having a steady stream of sponsors – literally everyone wins!
“This is a business that’s all about building relationships,” Steve says. “Our franchise owners are going to be spending their time networking in their communities and forming relationships that are based on a shared commitment to give back. We’ve discovered that there’s no shortage of organizations, charities, businesses, houses of worship, and colleges and universities who want to host an event. When they hear the impact that one event can have, it becomes a common sense decision to host it. The more events our franchise owners can organize, the more successful they become in business – and more importantly, the more people they’re able to help.”
